Day 291: Humbled By The Almighty Skunskville

The legendary "Skunksville"
When: Monday, February 27th, from 8am to 5pm
Where: Monksville Reservoir, aka "Skunksville"
What: Musky fishing with Joe
Weather: Sun gave way to clouds later in the day, 20 degrees in the morning and warmed to the mid-50's, wind up to 12mph from the SW and gusting to over 20mph at times
Barometric Pressure: unknown (NOAA website down right now)
Moon: Waxing, a couple days before the first quarter
Water Conditions: Stained

Well, you can't win 'em all.

Especially at Monksville.

I thought I would be able to take some of my new-found knowledge and success and put Joe and I on one, or maybe even two muskies today. It didn't happen. This lake is famous for being stingy, and it defeated us today...big time

This day wound up being an adventure between the skim ice, the high winds and the batteries getting drained on the motor. I'd love to go into details, but I need to leave my house NOW so I can fish before the first day of my new job so I have time to make it after work to attend my first meeting of the New Jersey Chapter of Muskies Inc....MI22.

All you need to know about today was that Joe and I fished our faces off for 9 hours and didn't get a bite.

Such is musky fishing.
