Day 282: A Bit Of A Head-Scratcher

The sun apparently didn't lure any fish into the shallows today.
When: Saturday, February 18th, from 3:45pm to 4:15pm
Where: Rahway River Parkway Pond
What: Fishing with crawlers
Weather: Mostly cloudy, 48 degrees, SW wind at 14mph
Barometric Pressure: 29.94in and falling
Moon: Waning, 4 days after the last quarter
Water Conditions: Murky

Some things in fishing you can just count on.

Kind of.

With the mild weather, it may as well be Spring right now. As a result of water warmer temperatures, a few things should be happening below the surface, or at least happening very soon. As the days grow longer, the shallow parts lakes and ponds begin to heat-up and can often be several degrees warmer than other parts of the same body of water. This is especially true for shallow flats at the north end of the lake. This warmer water will attract smaller fish to either spawn or enjoy the more comfortable temps, and that in turn will bring predators. A nice sunny day will often bring fish into the shallows in the afternoon.

This was the scenario that I was banking on today, but it did not pay off.

No worries though, lots more mild weather this week and much more time to go fishing.
