Phew, good thing I didn't go on Monday!!When: Tuesday, January 9th, from 6:30pm to 7pm
Where: The trap and skeet range
Weather: Mostly cloudy, 45 degrees, W wind at 15mph
Barometric Pressure: 29.88in and rising
Moon: Waning, just past full
Water Conditions: Low, murky and 2/3rds frozen
This isn't getting any easier.
It was almost 50 degrees again today, so I figured most ponds in the area would be free of ice.
I was wrong.
After a long day at work, I headed over to the last place I caught fish: the pond at the trap and skeet range. Although it was after dark and I really wasn't sure I was supposed to be in there, I didn't have a Plan B. When I arrived, to my surprise and chagrin, the deep pool where I catch wild goldies and carp was frozen over.
I was about to go somewhere else when I decided to walk around the rest of the pond. After a little adventure, I did indeed find a large area that had open water. Since I was short on time, this was going to have to do. I got my gear from the car and got ready to fish.
On my way down, a cop sped into the parking lot. I was sure, since I was the only car parked there, that he was going to turn his spotlight on and eject me from the park, but he did not. After a few minutes, he left.
I got to my fishing, but did not catch any fish.
Seeing how much trouble today was, I keep thinking how difficult the next month or so is going to be. After a couple more warm days, I can pretty much count on everything being frozen starting on Friday.
I'm going to have to start getting creative.
