So, this year ended with a whimper, but this was undoubtedly my best year of angling yet. I said the same thing last year, and looking back on the fantastic fish I caught in 2010, I didn't think there was much of a chance that 2011 could be better.

Well, it was.

Lindsay and I decided to spend some quality time together on the last day of 2011. We had plenty of seafood and movies to keep us busy that evening and a few errands to run during the day. Our travels brought us close to Seeley's Pond, and that's where I did my fishing. I tossed some grubs and spinners for 30 minutes, but not a stir.

Oh well, back to the amazing year I had.

I had some personal goals for 2011 that I kind of kept to myself. First off, I wanted to catch more walleye and hybrid striped bass. I caught my share of both, including a near personal best 'eye and a trophy wiper...I'd say this goal was pretty much smashed.

I also wanted to land a couple stripers from the beach. Although my surf fishing was limited, I did score a nice keeper on a bunker chunk in the spring and one in the fall that was just shy of the legal limit. Another goal reached.

Then, there was the musky.

I wanted to land my first musky this year, but I had no idea how successful of an endeavor this would be. A lot of anglers go their whole lives without catching a musky, and in my first year giving any kind of serious attention to them, I caught five. Two of those were through the ice and one was tiny, but they were all musky. My first "open water" musky outing in August produced a 24-inch true strain to complete the Esox hat trick. After a couple heartbreaks with missed fish, I landed my first "legal" musky on Greenwood in December followed by a true trophy from the Allegheny five days later.

What a year.

I've been thinking about my personal goals for 2012 and I'm pretty sure what'is on the short list. I'm not going to keep them to myself this year and will tell you all about them tomorrow.

Happy New Year everyone!!!!
