Day 132: A Bush League Mistake

Another wild goldfish.
When: Wednesday, September 21st, from 5:30pm to 6pm
Where: The Rahway River and a small pond near Kenilworth
What: Carp fishing
Weather: 72 degrees, overcast, SE wind at 6mph
Barometric Pressure: 30.19in and steady
Moon: Waning. A day after the third quarter
Water Conditions: River was still a bit high, both were murky

Today I made on the dumbest mistakes you can make as a fisherman, and it probably kept me from catching a fish.

I forgot the bait.

As I was leaving the house, I grabbed my fishing bag and put a handful of items (leader, my camera, hooks) in a plastic bag to take to my car. I intended to put the can or corn in there, however I must have set it on the table and it did not actually make it inside the fishing bag. I didn't realize this until I got to the fishing spot, and at that time I had neither the time, energy or desire to go home or to a store to find more.

I did have one piece of bread left over and that was going to have to do.

But it didn't.

When I got down by the river, I could see "signs" that carp were feeding. Without my chum and only unproven bait onhand, I wasn't confident I could catch one.

And I didn't.

The bread was not staying on the hook well enough, and I didn't get any run-offs.

On the way back to my car, I stopped at the little pond Lindsay and I had found and I caught a couple of these little fish.

A small consolation for a silly mistake.
