Day 63: Full Moon Rising

Lower Echo Lake on the eve of the full moon.
When: Thurdsday, July 14th, from 7:30pm to 8:30pm
Where: Lower and Upper Echo Lake in Mountainside
What: Bass fishing
Weather: Around 8-degrees. Partly cloudy, light wind.
Moon: Full
Water Conditions: Stained with blooms of vegetation.

Everyone seems to have their theory about how good fishing is on the night of the full moon. Some will tell you it's the best night of the moon cycle, some will tell you it's the worst. Some will tell you it's the days around the full moon when fish bite best, some will tell you it's just after and yet others will say the whole week surrounding the full moon phase is horrible for fishing.

I can't give you a definitive answer, but one of the things I intend to gain some insight into during my 365 days is how well fish, and in particular freshwater fish, bite on and around the full moon.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get anywhere with any decent fishing Thursday night, so I'm not sure if my not catching anything was due to poor quality of fishing in Union County.................or the full moon.

Next Up: Probably a lunchtime line-wetting on Staten Island.
