Group photo from our first hike of the year. When:Saturday, May 1st, from 10am to 1:30pm
Where:South Mountain Reservation near Millburn
What:The first "official" gathering of Hikers Anonymous
Weather:Hot. High well into the 80's and sunny. Not much breeze in the trees.
Last year, a bunch of our friends from Jersey City and some of Lindsay's friends from Mendham decided to get together and take a hike. We climbed Point Mountain near the Mighty Musky (Musconetcong River) and a spectacular time was had by all. It was a consensus that we should do it again, and someone suggested the name Hikers Anonymous.
Although we never made it out again last year, Lindsay made it a point to get the ball rolling again in 2010 and to have a monthly outing.
This was the first and the first was a success.
Even more to my delight, I was able to pry the fishing rod out of Chris Martalus' hands for a day and he joined us. That worked out well, as it afforded us plenty of time to hammer out the details for our next day on the water (May 15th).
The hike took us around 3 and a half hours, although we took a nice long break near a waterfall to eat some food, drink some water and make some good conversation.
Wheels are already turning for the June trip and all are welcome.
I am also happy to report that my clam knife wound seems to be healing nicely, and I expect to make a full recovery for a charter aboard the Last Lady II with Pat and Rob this Saturday.
Next Up: Striper fishing on the Last Lady II on the 8th, all day canoe affair with Martalus on 15th and a weekend in Lambertville (and hopefully a trip with Big "D" River Guide Dieter Scheel) the weekend of the 22nd.
